Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) – is an evidence-based, short-term treatment designed to strengthen parent-child relationships, help parents build their confidence and ability to effectively guide and direct their child’s behaviour, set limits, calmly discipline, and restore positive feelings to their interactions.
PCIT is effective with children ages 12 months to 11 years old who display the following issues:
• Parent-child relational problems
• Refusal and defiance of adult requests
• Emotional dysregulation
• Low self-esteem
• Short attention span
• Low frustration tolerance
• Whining
• Deliberately annoying others
• Being spiteful or vindictive
• Blaming others for their mistakes
• Aggressive and destructive
• Difficulty staying seated
• Difficulty playing quietly
• Difficulty sharing or taking turns
It works! I observe and coach you and your child through Zoom.
You’ll need:
- a device to Zoom on (iPad, phone, lap top..)
- a bluetooth ear-piece,
- a space where you can play with your child
- open-ended toys (eg. lego, blocks, pretend play materials, art supplies, play dough, )
Art Therapy combines the creative process of art making and psychotherapy to facilitate self-exploration and understanding. The process of art making allows for conscious and unconscious thoughts and feelings to surface which is sometimes difficult with words alone. You do not need to be artistic, talented or have any prior experiences in art making to benefit from this process. Art therapy is effective for people of all ages and population including children, adolescents, couples, families and groups.
Professional art therapists are those who have completed an art therapy postgraduate training that meets the education standards of the Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA) and abide by the CATA-ACAT Standards of Practice. This includes a minimum of 700 hours of clinical supervised practicum hours.
Many healthcare plans (e.g. Manulife, Blue cross, Sunlife, Great West Life) will cover registered clinical counsellors (RCC) but be sure to check with your extended health care provider before booking an appointment to ensure coverage. A receipt for your sessions will be provided for your reinbursement.
